Kim Peek (seated) and his father Fran Peek
You've probably heard of him, but didn't even know it. Have you seen the movie "Rain Man?" Dustin Hoffman's character was based on Mr. Peek. I've held the Oscar in my own two hands that Hoffman won for that role.
Sadly, Kim Peek passed away yesterday. When I was in 5th grade, I got to meet Mr. Peek and learn about his genius. He and his dad visited my small classroom and allowed us to ask some questions. I got to be the first student to stand up, tell him my birthday, and then in less than a second, he was able to tell me what day and what year I would retire. He was incredible! I feel very fortunate to have met this amazing man.

And WOW! You got to hold the Oscar in your hands!? My dream. seriously.
woah that is so interesting, I didn't even know it was based on a true story (although that does make a lot of sense).
