Resolutions

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Everyone makes resolutions, but does one ever really stick to them? I know I have a tough time, but I figure that any attempt at being a better person is better than being complacent and saying to myself, "What's the point of trying? I'm just going to give up anyway." Doing that would definitely get me nowhere.

I'm sure a big part of why I haven't stuck to my resolutions in the past is because I try to change too much at once. (Baby steps, Amber. Baby steps.) I've come up with a few resolutions that I think are actually realistic.

Here are some of my goals for 2010:
  • Get up at the same time as Brett during the week. That would give me an hour or so before the boys get up where I could exercise, read, get ready for the day, and just have some time to myself.
  • Stick to my chore calendar. I created one a couple of years ago that really helped me stay on top of things. I got off-track about a year ago when life started to change and I haven't been able to get back into the swing of keeping an organized house. I'm re-implementing the chore calendar because I think it really did help me.
  • Be healthier. Don't eat after 8:00 p.m. every day (I've already been doing that and it's easier than I thought), buy ingredients for easy meals so I'm not tempted to eat out when I don't feel like cooking, have more healthy snacks in the house, and drink more water.
  • Spend less time on my computer. I let Twitter, Facebook, and blog-surfing take up too much of my day.
  • Create a new project list that includes sewing projects, activities for my boys, and other craftiness.
  • With my new calling as the Second Counselor in my ward's Relief Society, it is my goal to be more spiritually-minded. I don't look at this as a real resolution because I would do this whether it was at the beginning of a new year or not, but I really want to focus on being more Christ-like. (Unsure of what I'm talking about? Go here to learn more.)

Those are the things I've thought of so far.  In one month, I vow to check up on myself and see how I'm doing.  Wish me luck!  And best of luck with your New Year's resolutions!

Cool Amber, I LOVED being second counselor in the RS. Probably my most favorite calling ever. I've done it in three different wards, course I was never there more than a year! But it is so much fun! Congrats, that alone will make you a better person. You have to reach out of your comfort zone, always hard for me! So excited for you. You'll do great!

I wanna see your chore calendar! Since moving into a house 5 times the size of our old apartment, I'm trying to figure out the best method for getting it all done without a) spending an entire day doing it or b) taking up all of my "me" time each day. Love your resolutions!

great resolutions Amber, except the spending less time on the computer. I do not approve of that one.
Your getting healthier rez sounds pretty do-able, I may steal your ideas.
