Weekends

Lately I've been noticing a trend: I look forward to the weekends because I feel like it's a rest from the regular goings-on of the week, but it's that same laziness of the weekend that makes my work during the week so hard!

Case in point:
The house is a disaster. The kitchen counters are covered with dirty dishes from the meals we cooked over the weekend, laundry has been piling up since Friday, the family room is looking extremely "lived-in," just to name a few.

It's not just the house, either.

Brett and I have made an effort to abstain from sweets during the week and save those indulgences for the weekend. We usually bring out the cookies, candy, and other treats on Friday night and don't hold back until bedtime Sunday night. We spend the rest of the week trying to undo the crappy feeling that has set in from the over-indulging of the weekend.

It's all a game of catch-up, and I'm really getting tired of it. I don't mind cutting back on the sweet stuff even more. It actually hasn't been as difficult as I had originally thought it would be. I like the feeling I have at the end of the day knowing that I made good food choices. The whole cleaning thing is another story.

This last week I did really well at keeping the house clean. I was even able to get the boys to pitch in more than usual. Home was a nice place to be! Now, as I look at the messes around me, I dread Monday because I know what will be taking over my day.

How do I find the motivation to keep a clean house on the weekends as well as during the week? I fear the answer to that question will continue to elude me...

My cleaning routine has been the exact same! Here's what I've discovered, if you invite people over for games or dinner on Saturday or Sunday (as much anxiety as it gives me) I like being forced to clean! When they leave, there's only the dishes, and everything else looks great!

I have the opposite problem. Saturdays are my catch-up and when I have to work I can't get anything done. Want to conjoin lives and we'll be set?
