Preschool?

I'm very conflicted as to what to do about Brady's Preschool situation. With all the craziness of moving and vacations and such this summer, I didn't get Brady on any waiting lists for Preschool. Now they are either too full, or too expensive, not to mention the fact that I don't have the means to get him to and from some sort of establishment during the day. I am opting to teach him at home with a program my sis-in-law is lending me, but I feel bad about him not having the social interaction an actual Preschool would provide. He's a smart cookie already, so I'm not worried about that sort of transition into Kindergarten next year, but do you think Preschool is absolutely necessary? Will he be okay? Am I a bad mom for keeping him home? I'm really struggling with this...

Pre-school is NOT necessary. I struggled with the same thing this year for Logan. Ultimately, I decided it was best for him, socially, to go to pre-k, though he's academically more than ready for kindergarten already. I know you just moved...are you close to a library? park? anything? Just make a conscious effort to get him out in social situations as often as possible. You're a WONDERFUL mom! <3

I don't think pre-school is necessary, you teaching him is sufficient. As for the social outlet, just find a group of woman (usually church group) and do a play group once a week. Thats what I did in Philly and Drake really got a lot of interaction and expended tons of energy.

I agree He will get the social interaction from church and like Paige said if your ward has a play group or something he will be just fine. Don't stress. He will do a great job and you will do a great job teaching him.

I think, if you are going to have a structured learning time at home, the educational value will be fine!
I can't answer to the social part. My older kids both went to pre-school and daycare full time. The twins are doing it part time. They have enjoyed it but it is ME that has enjoyed it the most. I need time with out them.
Soooo, I guess I am not worried about your kiddo so much as I am worried about you!!!
Get your mommy alone time in and then I think you will all be swell *grin*

Hi! Just found your blog from your PW comment. Don’t give up :) You have a brand new follower to write for! As for the pre-k issue, I’m homeschooling my sons and my oldest started pre-k this fall (at home). As for the social aspect…you are a person, interact with the munchkin :) Think I’ll write a whole post on this topic for my blog, because it is something I hear a lot. What program are you using for him?

Preschool is important but not necessary - you're doing the right thing to have a program for him. You can get the social interaction for him by going to a park twice a week where he can play with some kids. Our church has a mother's group that meets at the park once a month and that helps mom's connect with like minded moms. See if there's one around you.
Good luck. I know you will do fine and so will Brady.
